Digestive Teas
Recipes:
Ginger Tea: Gather up fresh organic ginger root, maple syrup, and a lime. Boil a pot of water and then turn it off. Throw in the grated or finely chopped ginger and cover for 10 minutes. Add a little maple and a squeeze of lime for minerals and balance.
Tummy Love: Steep equal parts ( 1 TBS each) Cumin seed, Coriander seed, Fennel seed, for 5-10 minutes in 4-5 C boiled water. Strain out and enjoy throughout the day!
Two of my favorite teas that we have going most days in our home come fall and winter are Ginger Tea made from fresh ginger root, and Tummy Love made from Cumin, Coriander and Fennel seeds. I often start my day with the Ginger Tea, and use the Tummy Love when I feel I need a little more soothing. The Ginger Tea is especially great for any time you are doing a cleanse to keep your digestive fire- Agni- strong. It is also a great tea to drink throughout the day if you have a cold. Ginger is one of Ayurveda’s prized herbs and used for many issues. The simple answer is this. The digestive fire is at the heart of health / illness in Ayurveda. Since this warming spice can help to build the Agni and strengthen the digestive fire, we are automatically on our way to building the foundation of our health. If you suffer from bloating, gas, chronic colds, indigestion or occasional stomache aches, this could be a gentle and yet powerful ally for you.
